CHESHIRE POLICE VISIT ABBEY GATE COLLEGE SIXTH FORM
Traffic Safety Visit Cheshire Police

PC 'Nobby' Clarke has visited the college on 3 occasions this year to give a variety of presentations to both the upper and lower sixth form students. The theme of the talks is safe driving and students learnt about aspects of traffic law as well as seeing some hard hitting videos that demonstrate what can happen when 'things go wrong'.

Afterwards a number of students admitted to being deeply affected by the images they witnessed and would change not only their own driving habits, but would do their best to change those of family and friends.

If you would like to know more about driving courses that are run in Cheshire then please contact Cheshire Police via their website.

A Legend
Mr Roger Elgood

‘A Legend’ was just one of the phrases used to describe Mr Roger Elgood, an ex Headmaster of an all girls school.  His life changed completely, aged 42, when he became completely blind.

Describing to us the difficulties he faced and still faces, we learnt about not only living with blindness, but also about learning to cope with the vast array of emotions he has had to deal with in the months and years that have followed.  Mr Elgood, with the help of his guide dog Angus and his endless supply of his talking gadgets, explained to us how he gets on with daily activities such as cooking and choosing clothes that match, as well as crossing the road.

It was Mr Elgood’s lightheartedness and wit that we all enjoyed so much, especially given that this is usually such an awkward and sensitive subject to discuss.  I am sure that I speak for everyone who heard his talk by thanking him for taking the time to make us realise that having a disability does not have to mean the end of your life.  Sometimes, showing a great deal of bravery and determination, as well as sharing a sense of humour, can get you a long long way.

5th and 6th Form Ball

The Upper School Ball is a well regarded annual event.  Almost all the students from the 5th and 6th Forms attended and dress superbly for the occasion.
