Aldford Parent/Child Weekend: September 22nd – 24th

Eighteen families enjoyed the annual Parent/Child weekend at the Glaramara Centre in the Borrowdale Valley. It was fantastic weekend, made even better by the sunshine and warm weather. Parents and children threw themselves (in the case of the gorge walk, literally!!) into the three activities, which also included canoeing and fell walking. A stunning firework display, kid’s disco and a very modern version of Mr and Mrs, (hosted by Ozzy and Sahron Osbourne!!) ensured a great time was had by all. A special thanks to Mr. Mullock and Mr. Muir for their input.

Harvest Festival

As is now tradition our first whole school event of the year was the Harvest festival service at Aldford Church. We walked to the church in glorious sunshine, which didn’t feel at all autumnal or harvest like. It was a lovely service with readings from J6 and songs from the Infants. Reverend Dorothy made us all feel very welcome and it was nice to see so many parents there. The hundreds of tins and packets of food donated were quickly distributed to local homeless and needy families and the collection at the end of the service raised £221.49 for the church roof restoration fund.

National Book Week

The school celebrated National Book Week with a host of classroom based activities that culminated in a fancy dress run by our Social Committee.

Books were made and reviewed, spells were conjured, poems written and extracts from books acted out.

Each class presented their work at our Friday whole school assembly.

Pictured are children from each class proudly showing off their work.

Bonfire Night

Those families that accepted the invitation to attend the Grosvenor Estate’s bonfire and firework display were treated to a spectacular night out. Everyone that attended agreed that this was by the best display ever. The children were treated to free food and refreshments and waited in eager anticipation to see if the Aldford Guy (looking suspiciously like Mick Hucknall) would win the ‘Best Guy’ competition. Unfortunately, Mick didn’t win and along with a dozen other usual suspects was tossed onto the enormous bonfire, which had been spectacularly lit by a rocket firework. Then followed the firework display, which was truly mesmeric. Accompanied by atmospheric music it was a display to remember.
