Course Requirements
No previous knowledge of the subject is needed to enrol for the AS and A2 courses,
however a pass at A – C grade in Mathematics GCSE is required. In addition,
an interest in current affairs and the business world in particular, would
be advantageous.
The Subject
Business Studies encompasses many different disciplines and at the same time
embraces many different forms of organisation. It is a study of the diverse
and yet integrated nature of business activity.
Business studies draws upon a wide variety of concepts and topics such as
marketing, production, finance, law and the business organisation. Candidates
are encouraged
to develop a critical under standing of organisations, the context in which
they operate, the markets they serve and the process of adding value by taking
a problem solving approach.
A qualification in Business Studies has relevance for a wide range of University
courses and is well received by employers.
Whatever career or occupation a student ultimately chooses to follow, it should
be remembered that all are part of a business, whether that be a profit or
non-profit making organisation. It is therefore a very useful subject for every
student to study.
It is obviously of particular use to those planning careers in the business
world, where they may specialise in marketing, finance, operations management
or human resources for example. With an expanding European Union, Business
Studies is an extremely attractive option.
Business Studies can therefore be studied alongside any other subject. Languages
are particularly useful in an ever expanding international market, but it is
equally popular in combination with the humanities, the sciences or design
and technology.
