British Finals
25 teams from Wales, Scotland and England had qualified to take part at Rossendale. At the end of the first run Abbey Gate girls were in 10th place and there was less than a second separating 5 of the teams. This called for sound skiing and strong nerves. Stephanie managed to improve her time by half a second and Sophie improved hers by a full second. As a result the team came 8th, 3 seconds ahead of Queen’s School, one and a half seconds ahead of Simon Langton and Millfield School, 0.16 of a second ahead of George Watson’s School and .09 ahead of Pates Grammer. It really does not get much closer than this, even on ski Sunday!! As a result of their performance on the dry slope, Georgina Gardner-Stockley and Robert Cross were selected for the English Schools’ Skiing Squad and trained in Norway in February with the aim of being selected to participate in the World Schools’ Championships.
