Southview Equestrian Event
The Junior Team were out in force over the weekend competing at Southview Equestrian Centre in Wettenhall, Cheshire. The competition this time was individual show jumping and the juniors had a great day of friendly competitiveness between themselves whilst trying to gain places in each class.
The youngest member Edward Stubbs from J4 had two very exciting rounds, and collected a third place ribbon on his very clever pony Sparky. I think the girls should watch out for Edward, he was a very determined little competitor and deserved his third place ribbon.

Alice Stones and Abigail Stubbs gained entry into the jump off for both their classes, and both girls narrowly missed out on ribbons. Alice and Abigail displayed some skilful horsemanship to gain double clears in both their competitions. Well done to them both.

Francesca Shaw and her new pony Treacle were the most successful team members this time gaining two fifth place ribbons in both of their classes. A speedy combination whom whizzed around the course in both classes.

Well done to all involved and many thanks to the parents for spending their Saturday at Southview.

Charity Run
September 24th witnessed more than thirty runners from AbbeyGateCollege participating in the Liverpool Corporate Cup. The Liverpool Corporate Cup is a five kilometre road race which took place, this year, in CroxtethPark, Liverpool. Abbey Gate College entered eight, four man teams in the Charity Division. The Abbey Gate teams were composed of; teachers, Sixth Formers, ancillary staff, parents and friends of the college. This is the ninth conseutive year that the college has entered teams in the Liverpool Corporate Cup to raise money for local charities.
Abbey Gate College's adopted charity, this year, is Cardiac Risk in Youth (CRY). CRY is a national charity which seeeks to raise awareness of potential cardiac abnormalities in young people. CRY offers bereavement support for families and promotes the screening of youngsters who may be at risk from cardiac failure.
Abbey Gate Cllege is very proud to support the work of CRY and the college is grateful to the tremendous generosity of the parents and friends of the college who supported the AbbeyGateCollege runners.

Schools in Bloom 2006
It‘s that time again when the awards are presented to the Best School Gardens in Chester, held at Chester Zoo. Judging is held in July. Three of the Garden Club Rob Marks, George Bryant and Matthew Andrews went along to represent Abbey Gate College. Head Boy, Deputy Head Girl and Helen my trusty assistant were also in attendance.
When we arrived we made our way to the Oakfield House, but before we even got to Oakfield House we had to stop and look at the brown panda’s who had ventured on to the ground, I’m informed these animals very rarely come down from the trees.
Eventually we arrive at the venue and we sit in anticipation waiting for the results.
I find out there is a new category: A Special Award for Schools with grounds. I'm pleased to say that we were included with the nominations and received an oak tree. Waverton won the First prize, with Kelsall finishing as runner up. After the ceremony we all had our photo’s taken for the chronicle, then the chance to look around the Zoo. Everybody had a great time.
So just think if you were in the Garden club (we have one or two places left!), you would have the chance to help with the development of the beautiful gardens here at Abbey Gate Collefge, working in the fresh air, learning about plants, and also the chance to represent the school at Gardens Awards ceremonies. We are trying for North West Schools in Bloom next year!
The Planting of the Oak Tree
On the 27th September Cllr Eleanor Johnson came to the college to Help plant the Oak Tree. So again the Garden club were involved, Mrs Horner came and gave a helping hand to the procedures. The tree is planted down on the sports field so will hopefully be there for many years to come. So can I thank Cllr Eleanor Johnson for taking time out of her busy week to come to the college and help plant the tree.

Alan Kift - Head Gardener.
