The science of the Titanic to be explored in the Spring

The Science Department Explores the Science of the Titanic.

The sinking of the Titanic on the night of April 15th 1912 was a momentous event in British maritime History.   Sailing from Southampton on its maiden voyage, Titanic was the biggest ocean going liner in the world and it was (in late Edwardian history)  representative of the best of British technology and engineering.  Titanic was thought to be unsinkable.  Ever since its sinking and loss of life, this tragic disaster has endured in the minds of every new generation.  To commemorate the ship’s centenary sinking, our Year 8 students will undertake a number of scientific investigations towards the end of the Spring term which will explore areas of science associated with this great ship.  The aim is to use this tragedy as a platform to further interest our young people in the success and difficulties of technological advances.
