Abbey Gate College - Speech Day 2011

Abbey Gate College moved its annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony to Chester Racecourse this year and enjoyed some excellent hospitality. 

speechdayThe College celebrates the achievements of its pupils at this annual event and the awards range from those who have demonstrated academic, sporting and musical excellence, to those who are rewarded for their services to the College or for Kindness and Good Intent. Headmistress Lynne Horner commented that “Every school year is different and Abbey Gate pupils undoubtedly have an abundance of talent in a diverse range of areas.  The day is about reflecting on past achievements and looking to the future.  We are proud of the success of all our young people and aim to help them become confident and responsible citizens in the wider world. “

The guest speaker this year was Tim Firth, whose credits include The Flint Street Nativity , Once Upon a time in the North, Preston Front, Confessions of a Shopaholic and of course the hugely successful show, Calendar Girls.  Tim stayed behind to personally congratulate the winners and is photographed with Headmistress Lynne Horner, Chair of Governors Maria Heywood and the prize winners.
