A Happy Harvest at Aldford

Aldford School held their annual Harvest Festival in St John's Church in Aldford, at the end of last half term.

This year the focus was on Fair Trade and the children learned about how this organisation protects and supports farmers and their families. The celebration was led by J6 who performed a short playlet about making choices, supported by the Infant Department's wonderful singing. The full congregation then enjoyed a whole school rendition of the 'Harvest Samba' led by our most enthusiastic Mr Butcher.

The dontations of food products, many with the Fair Trade logo on the packaging, was overwhelming and we would like to once again thank the pupils and their families for their support and generosity. The following day, the J6 House Captains and Vice Captains loaded the minibus with the donations and accompanied Mrs Findlay to Chester Aid for the Homeless in the town centre. Here, the children met some of the staff who worked in the day centre and they explained what a difference our donations would make to the people who shelter there. Once the children had finished bringing the food and drink into the centre's kitchen, there was not a spare surface or floor tile to be seen! This was a very humbling experience for our eldest pupils and as usual they conducted themselves beautifully.
