3rd Best Girls Ski Team in the Country

Abbey Gate College has celebrated more incredible success in national ski competitions.

The British Schools’ Dry Slope Finals took place on Sunday 20th November at the Midlothian Ski Centre near Edinburgh.  Abbey Gate College Girls’ A Team came 3rd in the whole of Britain, just behind Surbiton High A team and Erskine Melville School and ahead of schools such as Millfield in Somerset and Solihull School.  The team members are Sophie Caldwell (Year 11) from Bunbury near Tarporley, Zoe Karavasili (Year 10) and Christie Bell (Year 11) from Chester and Ellie Parker (Year 9) from Dodleston near Chester.  This result comes on the back of a highly successful season for the College so far - the Girls A team finished in Bronze Medal position at the English Schools’ Dry Slope Open Championship at Stoke in October; following qualification races and the age group finals, the following pupils have been selected to train with the English Schools’ National Squad in Austria and Norway in 2012: Sophie Caldwell, Zoe Karavasili, Ellie Parker, Digby Brereton, Ben Shaw and Leo Karavasili; and Sophie Caldwell and Zoe Karavasili have been selected to ski for the English Schools’ Team at the World Schools’ skiing Championships in March 2012 in Italy .

These achievements are testament to the hard work and dedication that the pupils demonstrate in their weekly ski training sessions and that of the staff and parents who support them throughout the year.  The College is incredibly proud of their achievements and wish all of them well in their future school races and would like to extend a special ‘well done’ to Sophie and Zoe who will be competing for England in March 2012.
