Chapel Choir sing in aid of NeuroMuscular Centre
The combined choirs of Abbey Gate College participated in the 'Spirit of Christmas' concert to a packed audience in Chester Cathedral at the beginning of December.
The choir, under the direction of Stewart Smith, led the hymn singing accompanied by the Cheshire Police Band and Organist Ashley Thompson as well as singing two carols, Jingle Bells arranged by Ralph Allwood and Holst's arrangement of ‘In the Bleak Mid Winter’. The evening, hosted by Matthew Kelly and featuring famous actors from stage and screen, was in aid of the Neuromuscular Centre based in Winsford; which this year is the charity that the College has adopted for its charitable fund raising activities. The whole evening raised in excess of £27000 for the charity and the wife of Matthew Kelly commented in an email of thanks to the College that
“What a sight what a sound. The readers all said they will never forget walking into the cathedral through that packed auditorium, and looking at the stage packed to the rafters (literally) with the choir. Every congregational carol was bliss to sing because of the choir and the descants were just perfect. Your two solo numbers were totally brilliant”.
The choir is used to performing to large audiences which have most recently included St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London. The choir continue to be extremely busy and by the end of December will have performed Christmas Carols at St.Andrew’s Church in Tarvin and at Chester Cathedral. This Friday they are performing for the Malpas Supper Club at Bletchley Castle Hotel. Members of the public are warmly welcomed to attend any of the choirs’ public engagements; details of which are available on the Choir website www.abbeygatecollegechapelchoir.co.uk.
