Robert to sing with the National Youth Choir
Robert Anderson has just been offered a place at the prestigious National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
He is joining the National Youth Cambiata Boys Choir which is the choir for boys experiencing voice change. He will take part is several week long residential choral courses each year and will meet up with children from all over Great Britain. His first residential at Easter will culminate in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
Robert, who is a Year 9 pupil at Abbey Gate College, is the current holder of the Daphne Herbert Choral Scholarship. He currently has singing lessons with the Director of Music at the College, Mr Stewart Smith, and is working on his Grade 8 Tenor repertoire following his successes at gaining distinctions in Grades 5 and 6 as a treble.
Robert finished as Leading Chorister at Chester Cathedral back in the summer, after 5 years where he sang any solo’s and won the Cathedral Choir’s solo singing prize on a number of occasions. He now sings with the Abbey Gate College Chapel Choir, Chamber Choir and Octavo. He has most recently performed with the choir at St Pauls Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and has participated in a choir tour of Belgium.
Robert also plays the cornet in the Cheshire Youth Concert Band, under the guidance of Tony Lewis with whom he has instrumental lessons at the College. Robert is currently working towards his grade 5 cornet exam.
The College wishes Robert all the best for this new musical venture and the success he has achieved is testament to his talent, hard work and dedication, in addition to the excellent musical tutelage he continues to receive at the College.
