Shakespeare in the College grounds
On a sun-drenched 4th July, Abbey Gate College’s Year 7, 8 and 9 Drama Club performed an atmospheric outdoor adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’, in the beautiful College gardens. The matinee performance included an introductory Hamlet workshop, which was thoroughly enjoyed by Year 5 and 6 pupils from both The Firs School and Saighton C.E Primary School, while the late afternoon performance was for teachers and parents. “Performing Shakespeare is demanding for the most experienced of actors but all of the pupils gave up many hours in the weeks and months prior to the day in order to perfect their roles. The pupils were directed by the excellent and inspirational drama teachers, Laura McMahon and Charlotte Andrews, and great credit should go to them for all of their hard work and leadership”.
Following this performance, pupils auditioned for parts in ‘Honk’, which will be the next College production in November.
