Winning start for AGC U16 football team

The Under 16 team starting slowly with a number of new faces in the team. Eventually they started to assert their passing and possession on the game and after 25 minutes Henry Smith beat a defender on the by line and out witted the keeper at the near post with a powerful shot.

The slick passing of James Faulkner and the powerful running of Nick Roden and Josh Marrs down the right created numerous openings. A cleverly slighted corner form James Faulkner was met with a thumping header from Henry Smith to secure a 2-0 half time score.

The second half with the winds at their backs the college, with Otis Chamberlain using his prolific kicking from goalkeeper in intelligently, stormed forward and Henry Smith hit a ferociously shot from 25 yards that the keeper never saw; 3-0.

The most pleasing aspect as the game continued was the contributions and determination from all the team. Ryen Spencer- Wolfe and Josh Molyneux were strong at the back, James Cameron was a tricky and threatening winger and Fergus Cowper continually outpaced the home defence.

A lucky deflection allowed Hillcrest to pull a goal back but the final result was never under threat.

A really encouraging start and the enthusiasm and combative qualities shown are vital elements to this season in our ISA League defence.
