Football - Under 15s v Shrewsbury School - Won 1-0

The Under 15 team prepared for their important National trophy game in Wolverhampton on Tuesday with a friendly against a well drilled Shrewsbury team.

The game being played in persistent heavy showers. The College passed the ball well and in slippery conditions, retained possession and built patient attacks. The woodwork was rattled by a Jorge Percival header and a Tom Donald shot as they laid siege to the opposition’s goal.

In the final minute of the first half Fergus Cowper bustled through the home defence and as the keeper parried his shot Eddie Speed was on hand to slide the ball into an empty net. Half time 1-0.The unrelenting rain made constructive football difficult, but to their credit, all players work tirelessly to create openings, especially Josh Kresynak and James Faulkner. Numerous further chances were squandered or blocked by willing defenders as shots rained in on goal; under the conditions an apt use of “rain”!

The result never looked in doubt until injury time when Harry Davies was called on to make a smart save from a Shrewsbury header. A dominant team performance, with all players laying a claim to a starting role on Tuesday.

An outstanding performance given the conditions; well done.
