Football - Year 7 are 7 a side champions
The annual Chester & District 7 a side Tournament was once again held at Abbey Gate College and this year saw the College enter two teams from Year 7. The ‘all-stars’ were knocked out at the group stages after three tough games against Kings’, Blacon & Christleton. The other Abbey Gate College team played some free-flowing and physical football to secure victories against Bishop Heber (2-1) and Queen’s Park High School (2-0) and a hard fought draw against Upton High School (2-2).
This was enough to the see the boys progress into the knock out stages of the competition where they faced Christleton in the semi final who had earlier scored 6 goals against the ‘Abbey Gate All Stars’. A repeat of their early victory never looked likely as Abbey Gate College dominated throughout and eventually went on to claim a 2-1 victory.
Following a semi final victory which was decided by penalties, Blacon High School lined up full of confidence against the Abbey Gate College team. However, following a very close game in which Blacon created a number of opportunities the Abbey Gate College team scored two well taken goals to seal victory and their first silverware of the year. Notable performers were Franc Antoine who scored 3 goals. The midfield was controlled well by ATheo Coulter, Leo Karavasili, Charlie Stratton and James Thompson who were a picture of composure throughout. Solid defence was provided throughout the tournament by Dan Meadows, Tom White and Blair Loggie with Oliver Smith in goal.
Congratulations to all the boys taking part.
