Football - Under 13's v Oswestry School - lost 1 - 2
It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Oswestry and the weather mirrored the football on show from the Abbey Gate College Under 13 team. With a number of absentees if was left to members of year 7 to step up to the plate against a physical Oswestry team.
The Abbey Gate College team played with real desire and pride in their shirt and blew Oswestry away in the opening exchanges. It wasn’t long before Abbey Gate took a deserved lead with some excellent exchanges including Jack Dixon, Franc Antoine and Theo Coulter which created the opening for Will Smith to use his left foot to ease the ball past the keeper.
Despite some resolute defence Abbey Gate were unable to keep Oswestry at bay and they eventually equalised before taking the lead shortly before half time.
In the second half Abbey Gate once again dominated but could not find that final pass to create a clear goal scoring opportunity. Shortly before full time, excellent play from Sam Raynor and Andy Ayshford put Will Smith clean through on goal and looked certain to score but for a questionable challenge inside the box.
Looking dangerous throughout and playing some physical, free flowing football, time got the better of the Abbey Gate team who eventually lost
2-1.
