Football - Under 12's v King's - Lost 0 - 9
The Under 12’s competed in their first full 11 aside fixture of the new school year, fresh from their victory in the Chester and District 7-aside tournament.
However, on a cold and blustery evening this did not prove to be our night. With their wind at their back King’s got off to a flying start, peppering ‘keeper Oliver Smith’s goal. He made some fantastic saves but a goal was inevitable and once one came a few more followed as they used the strong wind to their advantage. In between sustained King’s pressure the Abbey Gate team played some clever football, using the space well to create opportunities but no goals were forthcoming as the half time score reached 0-6.
In the second half Abbey Gate conceded 3 goals but troubled the King’s defence far more. We came close to scoring on several occasions but couldn’t quite beat the keeper.
Notable performers were Oliver Smith and Tom Fairclough who shared the goalkeeping duties and who made several fantastic saves; whilst Franc Antoine produced a commanding performance in the centre of midfield.
