Year 11 Netball Team achieve 3rd place in ISA tournament
On a very sunny Wednesday afternoon, most of the Year 11 Netball team attended the North I.S.A. U16 Netball Tournament, hosted by The Grange School.
Unfortunately due to a clash of events, five of the normal netball squad members were on another College Trip, weakening the team somewhat.
It was a very tough schedule with several 14-minute games one after the other. The first game against Hillcrest was a really close match with the scores tied 6-all on the final whistle.
Next up was Hulme Hall, who although were a much weaker team, Abbey Gate couldn’t quite find their magic to convert goals in the first half. After a strict half time talk, they finally found their game and beat Hulme Hall 7-3.
Another very tough game followed, having beaten the same team convincingly several weeks ago, Abbey Gate should have once again defeated the home side; but with several key players missing, the match was very tense. The girls fought hard but missed some important goals, allowing The Grange to even the score 3 all by full time.
Luckily the girls then had a break and were able to recover from the previous three games but their luck ran out when, feeling refreshed, they were beaten by the very strong Cransley team. The final score 1 -3 shows what a very close and low scoring game it was.
After another break in games, Abbey Gate thrashed Scarisbrick Hall followed by another big win against Tower College with a score of 7- 3.
Overall, the girls played extremely well, considering their normal teammates were absent and often shooting opportunities were missed (perhaps due to the heavy wind?). The final results; Cransley: 1st, Hillcrest: 2nd and Abbey Gate: 3rd.
Thank you to all of the girls for attending and giving up important lessons; an extra special thank you to Helen Ford and Sophie Caldwell, our two “hockey players”- we couldn’t have done it without you!
