Football - Under 15's v Upton High - Chester Cup - Won 3 - 2
This was an outstanding victory by a team who just go from strength to strength. The large open spaces suited our passing and possession play and for long periods of the first half the College dominated. Apart from set pieces however, they could not get any direct shots on goal against a capable Upton defence.
The deadlock was broken on twenty minutes when a wickedly delivered free kick by Dan Parker was helped in by two Upton deflections. Another goal was merited, despite Harry Davies having to pull off three fine saves but it took a sharp break by Jorge Percival and a good finish at the second attempt to extend the lead just before half time; 0-2.
The second half saw Upton, with the wind at their backs, come into the game more and two quality strikes brought them level with only ten minutes played. Most teams would have crumbled, but, driven on by Billy Reeves, Eddie Speed and Josh Kresynak the ever willing Jorge Percival soon restored the lead with a clinical finish after a great pass from Billy Reeves.
The defence stood firm with Max Clements on debut making a telling contribution and James Faulkner directing operations. The College continued to push forward as Fergus Cowper battled gamely to keep the ball in attack in the final minutes. The full time whistle saw a deserved victory against a spirited Upton team; roll on Thursday v Bolton Grammar - kick off 3.30pm - standing room only to watch!
