Football - Under 16/17 - v Shrewsbury School - Won 2 -1

A solid all round performance ensured another win against Shrewsbury School.

A number of withdrawals from the original squad resulted in a mixed team travelling for the return fixture with Shrewsbury. Having won convincingly at home we expected a stiffer task and, as we played the game with 10 men against much improved opposition, this proved to be the case.

Otis Chamberlain played out of goal and proved highly effective with some powerful approach play; his deputy in goal, Alistair Marks, was outstanding on the day. Captain Henry Smith led by example, dominating midfield and with James Faulkner steady at the back and Fergus Cowper proving to be a handful up front Abbey Gate always had the edge.

It was Fergus Cowper that opened the scoring when he outpaced the opposition and slotted the ball past the keeper. James Cameron added a second after a fine turn and shot from the edge of the box.

Although Shrewsbury managed to get a goal back before half time the result was never really in doubt.
