Football - 1st XI - v Shrewsbury School - Won 3 - 1
A strong squad assembled for some much needed match practice before important games this term.
Against a determined Shrewsbury outfit the team struggled to find any fluency on a difficult surface.
Josh Iles made a number of breaks on goal but lacked composure in his finishing as the college dominated. Finally Josh got what he deserved when he turned in a well driven free kick from Jonny Steventon. However, a rare Shrewsbury attack ended in the teams going in level at the break. Half time 1-1.
The second half followed the same pattern of scrappy play but finally a moment of true class lit up the game as Ben Handley moved the ball quickly out of his feet to dispatch a right foot screamer into the top corner from 25 yards. This spurred the team on and a clever ball from Finlay Pilkington released Josh Iles to cross for Ben Handley to again finish well.
A solid team performance but a lack of energy and the inability to keep controlled possession are areas for improvement in weeks to come.
