Rugby - Year 9 v Christleton High School - Lost 0 - 36

An Abbey Gate College team marred by late withdrawals from George Donald, Ben White and Olly McCormick due to injury, produced a valiant effort and a much improved performance from their previous encounter with Christleton.

The boys defended resolutely throughout but found themselves, at times unable to deal with the blistering pace of the Christleton back line who scored most of their tries from distance.
Abbey Gate started brightly and had periods of sustained pressure throughout the game but were unable to break down the hard hitting Christleton defence.
Late in the first half, after many half chances, Haymish Hymes went on a rampaging run down the left wing, leaving Christleton defenders in his midst and were it not for an excellent try saving tackle would have scored in the corner to open his account for the College.
Abbey Gate lost their playmaker and Fly Half Paddy Henderson which forced changes in the back division but this did not deter the boys who continued in the same vein as before the break.  Early in the second half Jack Dixon, a late addition to the squad, went close with his first touch of the ball, only to be tackled into touch with the line begging.
It wasn’t to be Abbey Gate’s night on the score board as Christleton ran in late tries.  However, many positives can be taken from the spirited performance and their effort and determination bode well for the future.
