Rugby - Year 7 v Christleton High School - Won 6 - 2
The Year 7 rugby team, with the Nieto brothers in Year 6 joining the squad, produced a committed and accomplished display against a strong Christleton team.
The early exchanges saw the College tackling well with Ewan Haigh and Dan Roberts both outstanding. Christleton did manage to cross the line twice in the first 10 minutes but this only galvanised the team into even greater effort.
The forwards started to dominate the play with excellent rucks and mauls retaining possession which was well used by the backs. Before half time Thomas White drove over for the College’s first try.
The second half was a fatatastic display of rugby as Toby Matthews, Nick Canfield and Dan Meadows drove the forwards on with Charlie Stratton and Thomas White making numerous breaks. Thomas White soon crossed for another score before Toby Matthews took the ball in to contact and set up a driving maul, supported by his tenacious forward pack he rumbled up field and crashed over for a try. Thomas White then confirmed the ascendency with two more late tries which Christleton answered with one of their own.
This excellent result is due to the hard work of the team in both PE lessons and training sessions and goes to show that hard work definitely pays off. The winning margin does all the boys great credit and the tenacity of their tackling and ball handling skills were a delight to watch. Well done.
The team’s next came is on 24th November when Abbey Gate College travel to Christleton for the return fixture.
