Football - Under13's v Oswestry - Lost 0 - 3
The Year 8 football team, ably assisted by a number of Year 7 pupils, took the field in high spirit hoping to avenge the 2-1 defeat they experienced against Oswestry earlier in the term.
Unfortunately it was the Oswestry team who started the brighter of the two and managed to snatch an early goal. This served as a wake up call for the Abbey Gate team who clicked in to gear and began to play some scintillating football. Jack Dixon and Will Smith combined well up front whilst Franc Antoine and Theo Coulter began to dominate midfield. Chances were limited in the first half and despite several promising runs by Will Parsons on the left wing the teams turned around at 1-0 in favour of Oswestry.
After a rousing team talk at half time Abbey Gate College took the driving seat and began moving the ball around fluently. Oswestry struggled to exert any control and it wasn’t long before our first chance of the half. Excellent work by the midfield allowed Will Smith to pull wide and fire a brilliant cross along the edge of the 6 yard box. Unfortunately Jack Dixon’s touch went millimetres over the bar as a result of some close attention by the Oswestry defence.
Abbey Gate continued to play their exciting brand of football and chances kept presenting themselves as the boys hit the crossbar and the upright twice. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day as Oswestry twice cleared their lines with a long ball which their speedy attacker latched onto, scoring both times to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. This certainly wasn’t a true reflection of the game as Abbey Gate played the better football in the second half and created more chances, however the woodwork seemed intent on getting in the way.
Well done on an excellent performance, we’ll get the result next time!!
