Aldford Tag Rugby Success
Tuesday 24th January saw the Aldford Rugby Team get their season underway in style against a well drilled and well thought of Redcourt St Anselm’s school team.
The squad made their way up the Wirral courtesy of Mr Sutton as we approached the school the weather cleared but it was clear that the pitches would not suit our free flowing attacking Rugby.
Game 1: Redcourt J6 7-7 Aldford School
The first game, which was against the Redcourt Year 6 team, was drawn 7-7. The Aldford team took an early lead and looked good for the victory until Redcourt capitalised on some uncharacteristic mistakes going forward. However the outstanding Louis Dearling treated the crowd to an excellent display of agility as he went on a mazy rus to tie the game with the very last play. The boys played some flowing rugby with some great displays of agility and speed to outwit the Redcourt defence despite the heavy conditions under foot.

Game 1: Redcourt J5 3-5 Aldford School
After a close encounter in the first game it was time for the Recourt Year 5 team. Captain Joe Nieto has highlighted a need to improve defensive play and that was exactly what happened. Tireless work in defence from the whole team saw the home team restricted to 3 tries as Aldford ran in 5 tries courtesy of another Sam Staden hat-trick and a try each from Joe and Sam Nieto.

The final game of the afternoon saw a rematch of the drawn match against the Redcourt Year 6 team. The boys knew they could go score for score with the well drilled Redcourt unit and that defence would be the key to sealing victory. The Aldford team really got into their stride and the result never really looked in doubt as they ran in 7 excellent tries. The impressive Louis Dearling had to be substituted close to the end but this served only to galvanise the team as they saw out an impressive victory.
