'Cricket season weather' finally arrives
Monday 21st May , Week 2 of the season, saw glorious weather and a double header against Bishop Heber.
The Under 13 team won the toss and elected to bat. However, Heber bowled well with their opening bowlers keeping it tight and bowling good lines - Sam Parsons scored 14 but a few wickets fell and the run rate slowed right down. The first change bowler got 3 wickets in two overs and some of the lower order found it very difficult to score. The college amassed 48-6 off our 16 overs.
Charlie Dearling and Sam Stratton opened the bowling and their opening bowlers were once again the main players in the batting line up as they raced to 30 off the first five overs. The game looked done and dusted but one batsman had to retire and then a few wickets fell rattling Heber for the first time. Unfortunately the level of bowling could not be sustained and they finished on 52-3 off 11 overs .
The under 15 team batted first and some lusty hitting from Matt Steventon got the College off to a bright start before he was give out LBW. Connor McGovern and Sam Arnold then controlled the innings but failed to break the inner field and in hindsight did not hit enough boundaries as the college finished on 84 for 2 off 16 overs. Heber had two county batsman who dominated their innings, albeit against much improved bowling from Matt Steventon and John Ayshford, with Connor McGovern and Will Littlewood also producing controlled spells. Despite tight fielding the runs were knocked off with 2 overs to spare. This was a really encouraging performance on a beautiful sunny afternoon!
