Year 7 Chester and District Athletics

Wednesday 23rd May saw the ‘Minor Athletics Championships’ take place with Year 7 pupils from 11 schools from the Chester and District region competing. 

The sun was shining and all pupils were excited about the afternoon of athletics. The boy’s team came 6th, a brilliant overall result for the boys, especially if you saw the size of some of the opposition! At one point in the boys 4x100m relay there was a moment in which the Abbey Gate College team were completely hidden behind the larger Catholic High boys. Impressive performances included those by Leo karavasili, who came 2nd in hurdles with a time of 12.93 seconds and also Dominic Clarke who came 3rd in the boys 800m race. The girl’s team came 10th out of 11 schools with our outstanding performer being Jessica Thomas who came 2nd in the 1500m race and 4th in the long Jump. Well done to all pupils who took part and represented Abbey Gate College. Can I ask all parents to get feeding our Year 7 pupils with ‘green giant’ sweetcorn in preparation for next year’s Chester and District Athletics Competition!
