ISA North Athletics Competition – June 2011
On a beautiful summer’s day in Wigan, the Abbey Gate College athletics team performed excellently.
There were many encouraging individual performances with a number of our athletes achieving personal best performances. Notably, Sam Rayner’s performance was one of the main successes of the day having achieved a gold medal in the Javelin. Jack Allwood also came first in the High Jump, clearing 1.44m and breaking his personal best. There were also many other Abbey Gate College performers coming first in their events, Anna Holden in the Long jump, Ellie McCarthy in the Shot Putt, William Parsons and William Tomlinson in the 800m and 1500m respectively.
Olly McCormick took gold in the Long jump as did Charlotte Williamson. Ellie Baker won the Javelin while Tom Donald, Billy Reeves and Jorge Percival were also victorious in their events. For the senior boys Henry Smith was the outstanding individual winning the 200m. In total we have 13 competitors selected to compete for the North Team at the ISA National Athletics Competition in Birmingham later this month. Well done to all involved from the PE department and good luck in your performances at the Nationals.
