Sporting Stars
Abbey Gate College Sports Day was a successful whole school event with members of the staff and 6th form helping to officiate and every child in years 7 - 10 competing in at least one track event - many of whom were actually involved in two track events and a field event. The highlight of the day was the amount of personal best performances from children across the age and ability range; proof that competition really does bring out the best in their performances. Sports Day was the culmination of a very successful athletics season for the College. The Yr.7 boys team came first at the ISA North Championships with the Yr.7 girls and the Junior boys team, (Yr.8/9), finishing third.
Tom Donald broke the ISA Championships records in the 100m and 200m progressing to the Nationals in Birmingham where he also won both races. Other notable performances: Emily Vernon, Rory Jones, Ross McCormick, Theo Spofforth, Billy Reeves and Anna Williams were all selected for the Chester and District athletics teams; Anna Williams, Tom Donald, Myles Reid, Ed Speed, Billy Reeves, Yousef Al-Rafai, Ross McCormick, Josh Marrs, Danielle Macready, Wil Tomlinson, Jack Allwood, and Amy Williams were all selected for the ISA North Athletics team competing in the Nationals at Birmingham.
