With over 30 promising Chester schoolboy footballers and their parents present at the evening, His Grace was introduced and welcomed by the Head. In the Abbey Gate College theatre His Grace spoke of his own footballing career, selection for a trial at Fulham FC and the role of representative football in the development of good citizens and sporting values.
He then presented each of the players with their CSFA tie as a mark of their achievement having been selected as Gifted & Talented footballers (the best of the best) from the 10 state and public secondary schools in Chester and its surrounding district. Abbey Gate College pupils Henry Smith and Otis Chamberlain both from Year 9 were also proud recipients of their ties.
