Business Studies

Pupils will develop knowledge and critical understanding of the way businesses are organised, structured, financed and operated.

They will develop skills of communication, including those implicit in quality of written communication, and application of number, and the ability to use these in investigation, in decision making and in problem solving situations. Pupils will develop skills of primary research, presentation of data, analysis and evaluation,  and provide pupils with skills to learn for themselves and develop enquiring minds. 

Curriculum

This A Level course develops the pupil’s knowledge and critical awareness of the local, national and international context in which business operates. Pupils will appreciate the importance of working with others and contributing to the work of teams and through the course will gain personal experience of this and develop their skills. They will develop knowledge and competence in the use of language, concepts, techniques, theories and decision making processes appropriate to and used within business behaviour.

Rooms and Resources

There is a dedicated Business Studies room for Sixth Form teaching which has an overhead data projector. In addition a number of lessons are taught in a specialist ICT room to take advantage of the computers available and the Interactive Whiteboard.

Students use the computers to research and type up coursework. The data projectors are used for PowerPoint presentations by staff and students. The department holds a good selection of DVDs covering a wide range of topics.

Fieldwork/Extra Curricular/Educational Visits

During the two year course there are half day visits to local companies to observe the world of business.
