Academic Departments
History
The History Department aims to engage the pupils in the events of the past and encourage an awareness of some of the key events over the past two millennia.
Pupils are taught to appreciate a wide range of viewpoints and interpretations of those events, and promote tolerance and citizenship.
Curriculum
The Curriculum for the History Department is as follows;
Year 7
- The Roman Empire from its creation to its decline.
- Medieval Realms: The Battle of Hastings, the Domesday Survey, feudal system, the Development of Castles,
- Society, Church, Formation of the Realm
- The Black Death.
Year 8
- The Tudors: The Battle of Bosworth, Henry VIII and Elizabeth 1.
- The Stuarts and the Interregnum.
- The Plague, The Great Fire and the 1688 Revolution.
- The American West: The White Settlement of the Plains and The fate of the Native Indians.
Year 9
- The Slave Trade and the Industrial Revolution.
- The Holocaust and the Russian Revolutions of 1917.
- The First World War and The 1960’s.
GCSE
AQA ‘Modern World History’ Specification. In Year 10:
- International relations 1900-39
- Hitler’s Germany 1929-39
In Year 11:
- The Roaring 1920’s
- The USA 1919-29
- Depression and the New Deal: the USA 1929-41
The Controlled Assessment is based on the topic ‘Britain at War’.
A Level
History OCR Specification A. In Year 12:
- Britain 1918-51
- Germany, Dictatorship and Democracy 1933-63
Year 13:
- Russia and its Rulers 1855-1964
- Coursework on ‘The Causes of World War Two’.
Government and Politics AQA Specification.
- Year 12: ‘U.K Government and Politics’
- Year 13: ’Political ideologies’ and ‘The Government of the USA’.
Rooms and Resources
All teaching takes place in two designated classrooms. A wide range of resources are used in delivering the curriculum. These include the internet, as well as a vast collection of videos and DVD’s, PowerPoint presentations and textbooks.
Fieldwork/Extra Curricular/Educational Visits
In recent years we have made frequent visits to the First World War Battlefields and Auschwitz. In addition, we have taken trips to Quarry Bank Mill, Tatton Park and The Imperial War Museum. There is also an annual excursion to Parliament.
