Physical Education
We aim to reach out to all our pupils encouraging them to capture an interest and generate enthusiasm for sporting activity.
Key aims of the P.E Department are;

- Provide a broad range of sporting opportunities allowing for personal success in sport for all children across the ability range.
- Raise individual performance levels across a range of sports and celebrate achievement.
- Provide extra-curricular opportunities for all abilities through clubs, fixtures and inter-house activities.

GCSE
GCSE P.E is a two year course taught in Year 10 and 11, following the AQA specification. The theory content links physical activity with diet, work and rest for personal health encompassing a healthy lifestyle.
Pupils are assessed in four practical activities, two of which must be as a performer. Other aspects could be as a coach, official, leader, organiser or choreographer. The practical component is a controlled assessment and accounts for 60% of the total mark.
We cater for our most Gifted and Talented performers by offering them the opportunity to take the ‘Double Award’ qualification.
A Level
The AS specification develops knowledge and skills to help candidates understand the opportunities for, and effects of, leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Candidates will be given opportunities to build on their experience and improve personal skills/techniques across a variety of roles in a sport of their choice to improve performance.
The A2 specification enables candidates to further develop their understanding of key philosophical concepts, themes, texts and techniques. Candidates will be able to draw on, develop and apply material from both the AS and A2 modules.
Assessment is 60% written examination / theory and 40% practical based elements.
