Psychology
In Psychology at Abbey Gate College, lessons are delivered via Video Conferencing for one hour a week with an external tutor (external Link tutor Mrs F Kay).
The distance learning file gives an excellent and comprehensive direction to students in preparation for examinations. This unique form of study is an excellent experience to assess pupil’s ability to manage their own time.
Tutors
They provide a weekly feedback sheet on pupils as well as providing school reports on request, offering on line support at parent’s evenings and producing UCAS references.
Tutors will also visit school twice a year; just after October half term and once just before Easter. All pupils’ statistics including GCSE results and any other information relevant to aid their teaching are forwarded to the tutor. The pupils quality and ability to adapt to self support learning is continually assessed.
Link Teacher
The role of the teacher within the school establishment is to make sure all students are working at the correct level and to provide additional support in school to aid pupil’s progress. Close liaison with the external tutor allows for pupils to be monitored within supervised study periods and delivering assignments on time.
Students
The benefit from learning key skills vital for success when they enter university life after A levels cannot be underestimated. The ability to organise ones own time and have the flexibility to complete the unit of work benefits many pupils.
Why Psychology?
It will give you a unique understanding of why people behave in a certain way and what causes human behaviour addressing issues such as:
- Does early day care affect our development?
- Why do we remember where we were on 9/11?
- Why are we influenced by minority and majority opinions?
- What has caused the increase in eating disorders?
As part of your course work, you will complete regular assignments which will then be sent to the tutor via the Link Teacher. These assignments will be marked and returned to you via your Link Teacher with detailed feedback and grades.
