The Curriculum

Abbey Gate College delivers a curriculum which is reviewed and adapted as and when necessary to take account of the changing educational needs of all of our pupils as they face the increasingly complex demands of the 21st Century. The curriculum is based on a clear set of aims which reflect the educational philosophy of the College.

Pupils at Key Stage 3 follow a common wide ranging curriculum although there is some opportunity for personal choice in Modern Languages. Setting by ability occurs in English, Mathematics and Modern Languages through Years 7 & 8 and also in Science in Year 9. We firmly believe that ICT skills are essential for the modern world and in Years 7 – 9 all our pupils study an innovative course which leads to a GCSE qualification by the end of Year 9.

At Key Stage 4 pupils are given a free choice of optional GCSE subjects but with the requirement that they must study at least 2 science subjects, a modern language, a humanities subject and a practical/creative subject. All pupils study 9 GCSE subjects which includes English and Mathematics.

In addition to their study of academic subjects all pupils follow a broad programme of PSHE and Physical Education
