Overview

The Physics content at A-Level is relevant to real world experiences and is interesting to teach and learn. This Physics specification is a stepping stone to future study to ensure students develop the skills that Universities want to see. This approach has led to a specification that will inspire students, nurture a passion for Physics and lay the groundwork for further study in science or engineering.

Curriculum

The full A-Level is taught over two years with 3 exams of 2 hours each at the end of the upper sixth year. Lower Sixth: 1. Measurements and their Errors 2. Particles and Radiation 3. Waves 4. Mechanics and Materials 5. Electricity Upper Sixth: 6. Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics 7. Fields and their consequences 8. Nuclear Physics 9. OPTION - Astrophysics

Rooms and resources

The Science department includes four purpose built laboratories. There are also three preparation rooms and a dark room. The laboratories are fully equipped, including fume cupboards, to teach the Sciences up to and including ‘A’ Level. ICT provision for the laboratories includes departmental wireless laptops, data projectors, interactive white boards and data logging equipment. The laboratories are supported by three very experienced and enthusiastic technicians.
