A Bright Start as John Secures His Bronze iDEA
Published on 11th March 2026
Year 9 student John has spent the past four months building an impressive range of digital skills, and his efforts have now been recognised with the Bronze Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, known as iDEA. He completed 28 badges and achieved 268 points, which places him comfortably above the 250 point requirement for the Bronze level. His learning journey included modules in Python and jQuery coding, along with topics that explored AI, ethics and video editing.
For readers who may not be familiar with the programme, the iDEA Award is an internationally recognised scheme that helps learners develop digital, enterprise and employability skills through short online modules known as badges. These modules are created with industry specialists and cover areas that include cybersecurity, cloud computing, animation and innovation. The organisation behind the programme describes iDEA as the digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, with Bronze as the beginner stage, Silver as the intermediate stage and Gold as the advanced stage.
The badges span five core categories known as Citizen, Worker, Maker, Entrepreneur and Gamer. These categories encourage learners to become well rounded digital participants and support skills such as online safety, artificial intelligence, web development and creative production. Research from educational and digital skills organisations highlights that the content aims to help participants grow into confident digital citizens and potential future innovators.
One of the features that makes iDEA so appealing is its flexibility. Learners can complete badges on any modern device and each badge takes between ten minutes and just over an hour to finish. Points accumulate over time and successful learners earn industry recognised certificates along with a digital Record of Achievement that can be shared with schools, colleges and future employers. This combination of accessibility and credibility has helped iDEA grow significantly and it is now recognised as a leading digital skills charity in the United Kingdom.
John’s achievement highlights what can be accomplished with commitment and curiosity. Every badge he completed added a new layer of understanding, and he has now laid a strong foundation in areas that are becoming increasingly important in education and future careers.
With his Bronze award now complete, John has already set his sights on Silver. A confident and very promising next step.
