The Abbey Gate College Journey
At Abbey Gate College, we purposefully prepare young people for the many opportunities and challenges of our 21st century.
Through our unique Pillars of Purpose – Self, Service and Sustainability – we aim for our pupils to develop far more than just academic qualifications, preparing them for a world where human and digital experiences sit side by side.
The Abbey Gate College education is leading the way in shaping young people who will have the self-worth, resilience, flexibility, creativity, compassion, and principles to thrive.
We start in Foundation, at the age of four, and our Sixth Form leavers, at the age of eighteen, have the confidence, capability, and commitment that employers seek, and that our world needs.
Ours is a pioneering approach to holistic education, which is fit for the future.
Welcome from the Head, Mr Jenkinson
I am proud to welcome you to our wonderful College!
From Foundation to Sixth Form, this is a nurturing, kind, and beautiful place to learn and grow. And I speak as both the Head and also as a parent. Our caring, committed, and highly capable teaching and support staff do all that they can to guide, support, and challenge our pupils to achieve excellence.
Ours is a friendly and compassionate school community, where we work with each child’s individual interests and strengths; while also encouraging them to try new things, take risks and be creative.
Abbey Gate College is an education for living and for life, in beautiful buildings and grounds, with high standards and an overall culture of care and personalised nurture.

About the College
Welcome to Abbey Gate College.
We were founded by a small group of committed parents in 1977, who wanted a school in the Chester area that would value and nurture each child as an individual, while also being committed to academic excellence.
Half a century later, we are a leading, independent, co-educational, day school for students aged from 4 to 18 years, proudly serving the wider Cheshire and North Wales regions; with a reputation for happy pupils, who thrive.
Our College is situated on the rural outskirts of Chester in the historic Saighton Grange manor house as well as in the delightful Aldford village – nestling in 20 acres of beautiful grounds, with stunning buildings and a wide range of excellent facilities.
It is a unique and very special setting, which enables children and young people, from Foundation to Sixth Form, to learn, grow, and develop – in readiness for their future life.
“An inclusive and caring school community.” [ISI 2025 Inspection Report]
