Our Junior School is based alongside our Infant School, housed in the original village school building in Aldford, which dates back to the nineteenth century. Children enjoy learning outdoors in our beautiful grounds and outdoor classroom too.
At Abbey Gate College Junior School, small class sizes and specialist teachers ensure we offer our children a broad and balanced curriculum, which aims to develop the full potential of each and every student.
Spiritual, moral, mental and physical development form an important part of the curriculum and help to prepare students for the challenges and experiences of later life.
Our rich curriculum and PSHE programme develops skills for life and our children learn about themselves and others, developing skills such as budgeting, first aid and enterprise.
We offer an extensive co-curricular programme, averaging 25 activities each week, while the children enjoy a range of educational day visits and residential trips. Please see the current programme here.
Musical and dramatic performances form an important part of our Infants’ and Juniors’ experiences, with opportunities to take part in singing, musicals, plays and more. We are regular visitors to St John’s Church in Aldford to take part in harvest festivals, Remembrance services, as well as Christmas and Easter celebrations, plus other community events. We are also keen fundraisers for the church and village hall.
A range of sporting opportunities and regular competitive fixtures and events take place, including football, netball, handball, cricket, rounders, athletics and swimming.
Key Stage 2 (Junior 3, 4, 5 and 6)
In Key Stage 2 (7 – 11 years), following the National Curriculum, the children build on their Key Stage 1 foundations, continuing to stretch and challenge themselves through the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science with a meaningful project-based approach.
Specialist teachers deliver PE, drama and DT lessons, with French, computing, English-Speaking Board and music also offered. Our facilities include dedicated practice rooms for individual music lessons. Children may also undertake an external qualification on public speaking too.
Our Key Stage 2 students benefit from having several of their lessons at the Senior School on Fridays, enabling them to take advantage of specialist facilities, including the theatre, music rooms, sports hall, state of the art all weather pitch and DT workshop.
These regular visits to the Saighton site, including lunch for Junior 5 and 6, help support a smooth transition into our Senior School too.
