Infant School

Our Infant School is located in our stunning purpose-built built Hazledine Lodge, in the pretty village of Aldford, next door to our Junior School. It is just a short distance from our Senior school in Saighton, and in easy reach of Chester.

We make the most of our rural setting, with an outdoor learning area under a canopy of trees, comprising an outdoor classroom, a pond, an activity trail, raised beds and a greenhouse. Our popular pumpkin patch provides children with their own pumpkin to enjoy every year, while crops grown in the garden are used by our kitchen to make the children’s delicious lunches.

At Abbey Gate College Infant School, small class sizes and specialist teachers ensure we offer our children a broad and balanced curriculum, which aims to stretch and challenge within a supportive and nurturing environment.

One form entry allows teachers to get to know all the children as individuals, helping them flourish and find their strengths, while our expert team of Teaching Assistants support teachers in providing bespoke social and emotional education.

Our rich curriculum and PSHE programme develops skills for life, helping children to develop self-regulation, healthy self-confidence and strong social skills.

We offer an extensive co-curricular programme, averaging 25 activities each week, while the children enjoy a range of educational day visits and residential trips. Please see the current co-curricular programme for more detail.

EYFS (Reception)

Our Reception pupils are given the best start through a varied and exciting curriculum encompassing the seven areas of learning. We nurture each individual child’s curiosity and critical thinking skills and give the children tools to question, explore and problem solve, developing skills for life and positive relationships.

Our Foundation subjects are developed through many exciting projects each year, linked to enriching English texts.

Each project is introduced through a range of fun, multi-sensory and interactive activities and both the indoor and outdoor learning environments are used to enhance learning.

Key Stage 1 (Infant 1 and Infant 2)

In Key Stage 1 (5 – 7 years), the children continue their journey through our carefully designed indoor and outdoor curriculum, based on the National Curriculum, developing the full potential of each and every student. Our book-based approach to English fires children’s imaginations and links to carefully mapped-out projects to ensure their experience is both real and meaningful, and encourages stretch and challenge in all areas.

Their experience is further enhanced by well-recourses classrooms and specialist teaching in Music, French and Computing, with Peripatetic Performing Arts lessons also available, including singing, drama and a range of instrument tuition too.
