We are so proud to celebrate another very successful year for our Sixth Form students, who have benefitted from our school’s reputation for personal nurture and high standards.
The College is committed to a holistic education, supporting each student to fulfil their potential both personally as well as academically. Alongside strong A Level grades, which comfortably exceeded national projections, students excelled in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with a 100% pass rate at grades A* to B – a testament to their independent thinking, research skills, and academic curiosity. Edward Brown was the College’s highest achiever, awarded A*A*A* plus A* for his EPQ. He is going to study Economics at University of Leeds.
Similar to previous years, a remarkably high proportion secured their first-choice university places, and our students’ wide range of passions and talents is reflected in the inspiring diversity of their chosen post-18 pathways. These include: Veterinary Science; Marine Biology with Oceanography; Global Sustainable Development; Law; Cyber Security; Illustration with Animation; Psychology of Child Development; Automotive and Transport Design; Japanese Studies; Music; Philosophy, Politics and Economics; and many more.
In addition to university study, several students are pursuing alternative routes; aligned with the College’s mission to prepare young people for life and employment beyond the classroom, however may be a best fit for each individual. These include much sought-after Degree Apprenticeships, including Supply Chain and Business Administration and Business Management, and Apprenticeships, including one at Scottish Power Electrical Engineering.
Headmaster Craig Jenkinson, commented:
“Our role at Abbey Gate College is to nurture personal excellence in every student. We aim to inspire them to work hard and achieve well, to develop self-worth and resilience, and to leave us with a sense of personal confidence and a commitment to be of service to our wider society. This year’s Sixth Form students have embraced that ethos wholeheartedly, and we are delighted to see them moving forward with such purpose and ambition. It was lovely to see so many smiles and hugs this morning, as we celebrated their A-level results, which they and their teachers have worked so hard to achieve.”
