Abbey Gate College pupils from both our Senior and Junior Schools delivered a remarkable performance at the recent Chester Festival of Performing Arts, achieving an exceptional haul of awards across a wide range of classes.

The Speech and Drama Festival, held annually in Chester, brings together pupils from schools across the region to showcase their talents in the spoken arts. Designed to encourage confidence, creativity and communication, the festival offers young performers the opportunity to compete in a variety of disciplines while receiving detailed feedback from experienced adjudicators.

From verse speaking and prose reading to acting and improvisation, competitors perform throughout a full day of sessions, gaining valuable experience in front of both audiences and professionals. Each participant receives a written adjudication alongside certificates recognising their achievement.

This year, Abbey Gate College pupils rose to the occasion with confidence and composure, securing an impressive 20 first places, 6 second places and 5 third places. The success did not stop there, with pupils also bringing home 7 trophies – a fitting reward for their dedication and determination.

With a history spanning nearly a century, the festival has long provided a platform for aspiring performers to develop their skills and grow in confidence, and this year’s results are a testament to the strength of Speech and Drama at Abbey Gate College.

Huge congratulations to all pupils who took part. Their commitment, courage and character were evident throughout – and the results speak for themselves.
