Abbey Gate College joins the Association for Families of Independent Schooling (AFIS)
Published on 6th February 2026
Abbey Gate College is delighted to announce our new association with the Association for Families of Independent Schooling (AFIS) C.I.C., a national organisation created to support and represent families who choose independent education.
Recognised as a Foundation Partner School
Schools joining AFIS at this early stage are recognised as AFIS Foundation Partner Schools. Abbey Gate College is pleased to be one of this pioneering and forward-thinking group of leading schools; reflecting our commitment to a balanced, thoughtful and evidence-based approach to the future of independent education.
AFIS exists to support families directly, while also strengthening understanding of why parents choose independent education and the value it brings. Through research, advocacy and practical benefits, the organisation provides families with access to information, grants, exclusive offers and discounts from major brand partners – all while giving them a meaningful collective voice.
What this means for Abbey Gate families
All Abbey Gate College parents, alumni and supporters are eligible for free AFIS membership. Families are invited to get in touch with the College for more details about joining and taking full advantage of this opportunity.
Contributing to national research
AFIS is also preparing to launch its first academic research project in partnership with Chichester University, exploring who independent school families are and why they choose this pathway for their children. Broad participation from families nationwide will help ensure this research is robust, representative and genuinely informative.
We look forward to working closely with AFIS and encourage our community to take full advantage of the opportunities this partnership provides.
