This week marked a truly memorable moment for Abbey Gate College’s Performing Arts department. On the opening night of Brontë, we were honoured to welcome a representative from the National Schools’ Theatre Awards®, a clear endorsement of the quality and ambition behind the production.

We are delighted to announce that Brontë has been nominated for an impressive number of National Schools’ Theatre Awards, placing Abbey Gate College firmly on the national stage.

Often described as the “Oscars of school theatre”, the awards celebrate excellence in school productions across the UK, recognising outstanding performance, creativity and commitment to live theatre.

The nominations are as follows:

  • Best Play

  • Best Actor in a PlayThomas E

  • Best Actress in a PlaySophie K

  • Best Supporting Actor in a PlayWilliam C-E

  • Best Supporting Actress in a PlayAmira M

Over the run of the production, Red and Blue casts perform key roles on different nights, providing greater opportunities for students to take lead roles as well as expanding their experience in both lead and supporting parts.

While the Blue cast was performing on the night the NTSA representative attended, the Red cast performed at an equally exceptional standard, demonstrating the depth of talent across our students.  Their performances should be equally recognised and celebrated, reflecting the high calibre of both casts.

To receive recognition across so many categories is an exceptional achievement and a source of great pride for our whole school community. These nominations reflect not only the talent of the cast, but also the dedication, discipline and collaborative spirit that underpin our Performing Arts provision.

We could not be more proud of our students and staff for the standard they continue to set. To have their work acknowledged at a national level is a wonderful affirmation of the strength of Performing Arts at Abbey Gate College – and a reminder that tradition, hard work and a love of theatre still matter.

We look forward to following their journey as the awards approach and celebrating what is already a remarkable success.
