We are thrilled to share some truly out-of-this-world news from our Senior School! Year 8 pupil John H has had his Python coding project accepted to run aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the prestigious European Astro Pi Challenge.

Organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the Astro Pi Challenge invites young people across Europe to write computer programs that run on Raspberry Pi computers located on the ISS. These specially designed devices – named Ed and Izzy – allow students to collect data and run experiments in the unique environment of space, working alongside real astronauts.

Back in March, John entered the competition with a brilliant idea: a colour-changing fire flower, designed and coded entirely by him using Python. Last week, he received the incredible news that his program had been accepted for deployment on the ISS – a remarkable achievement that places him among a select group of students across Europe!

John is an enthusiastic member of the College’s Digital Pioneers Club, where he has developed his skills and interest in coding and technology. We are absolutely delighted for him and this well-earned success. His creativity, curiosity, and commitment reflect the very best of what our students can achieve.

Watch this space… quite literally!
