On Monday 6 October, Mr Blain and Mr Baglole took the U18 football team to Stonyhurst College for the opening round of the ISFA Bowl — returning victorious after a commanding 6–1 win.
Supported by two Year 11s, Toby C and Fabian V, the team began strongly, matching Stonyhurst in the early exchanges before taking control through a relentless high press. Captain Ben C opened the scoring from the penalty spot before adding two more well-taken goals to complete a superb first-half hat-trick.
Abbey Gate extended their lead early in the second half through Howie R, before Beau W added a fifth and Joe Hcapped off the win with a late goal from a corner.
The back line of Ollie C, Henry K, Gabe G and Joe H proved rock-solid throughout, with tireless work in midfield from Louis W and Ben C ensuring Abbey Gate dominated possession.
As Stonyhurst’s frustrations grew, the team held their composure and demonstrated great teamwork, determination and discipline until the final whistle.
Mr Baglole said:
“A 6–1 win against a large College will instil confidence that we can compete against anyone in the ISFA Bowl. The players showed outstanding effort and togetherness, and we look forward to building on this success in the next round.”
Congratulations to the entire squad on a terrific team performance and a well-deserved result! ⚽👏
