We are so proud of the Abbey Gate College community for coming together in support of The Children’s Book Project. Thanks to the generosity of our families and staff across both the Senior and Junior School sites, 30 boxes of beautiful, pristine children’s books have been collected and donated to this brilliant cause.
With the help of our site team, the books were delivered to Asda, who kindly offered to act as a local drop-off point and will now transport them directly to the charity. From there, the books will find new homes with children who may otherwise have very few – or even no – books of their own.
The Children’s Book Project works to tackle book poverty, something which affects far too many families in the UK. While financial hardship is a factor, there are many other reasons why books may be missing from homes—such as lack of time, negative experiences with reading, or a lack of confidence in choosing books. This inspiring charity aims to change that, offering every child the opportunity to own a book they can treasure.
We were truly touched to receive the following message from the charity:
“From the entire team at The Children’s Book Project, we send our thanks for your incredible support… Your community has demonstrated the power of giving… Each book donated will be gifted onwards with an invitation to that child to go on an adventure and become lost in a book they can own and love.”
The donated books will be distributed via schools and prisons, helping each setting to foster a genuine sense of themselves as reading communities. We are also delighted to receive a certificate of thanks and short video from the charity, which we will proudly share with our school community.
A huge thank you once again to everyone who donated – it’s heartening to see what we can achieve together.
