Cranmer Awards Success at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace
Published on 3rd March 2026
We are immensely proud of Will C-E (Year 8) and Anna D (Year 10), who represented Abbey Gate College with distinction at the Final of the Cranmer Awards over the weekend.
Competing at national level is no small feat. With just 13 Junior finalists and 12 Senior finalists selected from across the country, reaching the Final is an achievement in itself. Even more remarkable – both regional finalists for our area were from Abbey Gate College.
Will was awarded Highly Commended in the Junior category, a superb recognition of his thoughtful preparation and confident delivery. Anna competed in the Senior category, open to pupils aged 15 to 18, making her one of the youngest finalists. She more than held her own, demonstrating impressive composure and assurance. One audience member remarked on how impressively calm and confident she appeared ahead of her Final – no small accomplishment on such a significant stage.
And what a stage it was. The Final took place in the magnificent Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace – a setting steeped in history and perfectly suited to a competition celebrating the richness of the Book of Common Prayer.
We congratulate both pupils on their outstanding achievement. To reach this level nationally speaks volumes about their dedication, courage and character. They have done themselves, and the College, proud.
