With a passion for tennis from the age of five when she persistently and enthusiastically interrupted her older brother’s matches, proud former pupil Katie Merrick graduated from County level to National level tournaments before winning a 4-year scholarship to play Collegiate Division 1 Tennis in the United States.

Upon her return to the UK, she combined studying for her Masters Degree with captaining Leeds Beckett University’s first team to the National League Championship in 2022.

Now returning to Cheshire as an LTA certified level 3 tennis coach, she’s keen to share her love and knowledge for the sport with a new generation of aspiring Abbey Gate College athletes.
Katie starts coaching our co-curricular Tennis Club pupils this Thursday 12 May and will then lead both Wednesday (beginner/intermediate) and Thursday (development) sessions each week.
Welcome back, Katie!
