Abbey Gate College is delighted to welcome Mr Wilcock to the Senior School History Department this term.
First impressions often last the longest, and for Mr Wilcock, the beautiful historic buildings and grounds of the College made an immediate impact. However, he quickly discovered that it was not just the setting that stood out, but the warmth and supportiveness of the Abbey Gate College community.
When asked to describe the atmosphere of the College in three words, he chose: welcoming, supportive, inspiring.
A passionate historian, Mr Wilcock is eager to share his enthusiasm for the subject with students across the Senior School. He is particularly looking forward to teaching such a wide span of topics – from the Norman Conquest with Year 7 pupils, through to the Russian Revolution with Sixth Form students.
Reflecting on his first weeks at Abbey Gate College, Mr Wilcock noted that starting at a new school can feel a little daunting, with so many new faces and systems to learn. However, he has been struck by the readiness of colleagues and students alike to offer help. His takeaway so far echoes the advice he gives to pupils: if you are uncertain about something, just ask.
We are thrilled to have Mr Wilcock join our community and look forward to seeing his passion for History inspire students throughout the College.
